T0+12 Milestone Post

In February 2024, the fourth Progress Meeting of the ARAIMFUSE project took place and was declared successful by the European Commission.

In this milestone, one of the key deliverables was the ARAIM Evolution Safety Analysis document, devoted to the Safety Analysis of the proposed ARAIM Evolutions for Rail, Maritime and UAVs.

The Safety Analysis in ARAIMFUSE started with the consolidation of the Hazard Analysis (HA) presented in the ARAIMTOO project. The Hazard Analysis provided a complete perspective of the end-user threats, not restricted to the aeronautical world. A four-step approach, as can be seen in the figure, was followed.

Steps of Safety Analysis.

Step 0 performed the consolidation process based on:

  • Probabilities assessment of each hazard identified in the analysis.
  • Identification of which hazards were included in the current ARAIM development, and which were excluded or not considered.
  • Identification of how the end-user might deal with those hazards in an ARAIM implementation framework.

Step 1 consisted of reviewing the ARAIM parameters and the threat model while considering:

  • The consolidated hazard analysis – output of Step 0.
  • The different users’ perspectives included in the project scope (UAVs, RAIL and MARITIME).

Step 2 performed a FMEA of the ARAIM integration considering the parameters and threat model update proposal.

Step 3 consolidated the Integrity concept based on the previous steps and on the feedback from stakeholders. From this development, a set of recommendations was provided for the ARAIM evolution from the Safety perspective.

Step 4 provided the recommendations log record of the project.
